Roland, nephew of Charlemagne, sounds his horn
I am a graduate student working on my PhD, and I am constantly amazed at the liberal bias that permeates higher education. To adjust for the relativism and nihilistic philosophy that are constantly taken for granted in classes and in casual conversation, I attempt to constantly read a work of political philosophy outside of any class reading. Certain favorites (those to whom I consistently turn) are Plato, Aristotle, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Augustine, Russel Kirk, Pierre Manent, Joseph Piper, Tocqueville, and Lincoln. Aside from these, I read a great deal (probably too much) news, and I take delight in modern publications like Criterion and First Things.I have lived in the North, deep South, West, Mid West, and East of the United States, and I have lived for a time in England and Italy. I have been to most of Europe, and consider such travels one of the best investments of my money that I can make (consequently, I am quite poor…). I love travel, other cultures, and particularly my ancestral island Ireland.
I am a Roman Catholic (of the adherent type) and enjoy the tradition of the Church. I am a “Benedict XVI” type of guy.
I am more than happy to carry on a correspondence with any who care to contact me, though I would warn you that I am notoriously bad at keeping in touch.
